You can run Live Update from the Symantec System Center, or within Symantec Anti Virus.
Live Update can retrieve definitions files either from the Symantec server (which it does by default) or from an internal Web, FTP, or file server created with the Live Update Administration Utility.
Search the Window Event Logs for indications of trouble, and take any action necessary to correct it.
The VDTM is a fully automated solution for virus definitions distribution, and is enabled by default between servers and their managed clients. With the VDTM, it is only necessary to update one server in order to update all computers in the network. If you don't, the "upgrade" will hang and the server will show as disabled in the system console and you will probably get an abend in RTVSCAN. See this link for Symantec's response to the issue. The ZENworks application I used to deploy checked to see if the "C:\Program Files\Symantec Anti Virus\Do Scan.exe" file existed on the local drive, if it did NOT then the application would run. EXE file is new with SAV 10 so the application would upgrade older versions of SAV and install on systems that did not have SAV installed at all.I have also had a number of problems with servers disappearing from the server group in the Symantec console and having to un-install and re-install SAV to the Net Ware server. We have had very good success with the client side with only one small issue.Maybe Cool Solutions will soon have more info about this issue than Symantec does.
OPEN CALL: If you have experiences to share on this topic, let us know.Introduction Deep Freeze provides administrators with a way to protect workstations from changes by rolling back any change made to the computer at reboot. Configure your Deep Freeze install package as per your normal requirements, including passwords and other settings that may be required. Deep Freeze does not make any distinction between changes that are malicious, or changes that are desired on a workstation and this can pose some challenges in managing 3rd party products that require updates to occur on a periodic basis. I was wondering if you could open a new thread with a similar - but yet different subject - 'Pushing out Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition 10.0' - using ZENworks of course.Symantec has zero (yes, zero) articles regarding the deployment procedure of SAV CE (=for clients) 10.0 .For an example, please see Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.
